Kos, Greece

Kos island (also spelt Cos) is located in the Aegean Sea. It is the third largest island of Dodecanese (after Rhodes and Karpathos). The name of island, possibly, originates from the name crab, that in the ancient times was depicted on the coins as symbol of Kos island. Kos is known as the native land of Hippocrates - here the great healer born and lived.

Kos is also called a "garden of the Aegean Sea". Due to warm climate, large number of sunny days and the abundance of the fresh-water sources, Kos is the greenest among other Greek islands.

Kos is a small island, its size is 267 sq. km. It measures 40 km by 10 km, and is only 4 km from the coast of Bodrum, Turkey. The capital has the same name as the island itself - Kos, and it also often called "the City of Kos". The island offers a great choice of hotels and vacation houses.

The Meltemi, a strong north/northwest wind, creates good conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing on Kos.
